Default Spanner light...Who to blame...Advise needed

    Hi Guys,

    Need abit of advise?

3 months ago the spanner light on my 2004 1.9 cdti 150 vectra had come on, which on putting on the tech 2 turned out that the manifold and actuator motor needed changing.

I brought the parts from local VX dealer with 12 mths warranty and got a local garage to to fit them charging only for labour and for the last 3 mths car has been fine.

Except for a few days ago the spanner light came back on and on putting back on tech 2 at a different VX dealer thy have confirmed that the actuator motor is the problem.

Now it could be that the motor is faulty or not fitted correctly but if the latter then I would of thought the fault would of shown up early???

I am able to drive the car fine but under the bonnet when you rev the car the swirl bar on manifold is no longer moving back and forth, it seems that it is just stuck in the open position.

Now the problem is that if I go to this particular VX dealer where I brought the parts they may agree to replace the part under guarantee but who is expected to pay for the labour to fit it again???

Should I insist that either VX fit it or they reimburse me for the cost of paying to have it fitted again?? This is on the assumption that they agree to accept liability!!!

    Any advise would be appreciated!!

I'd say you have no chance of VX reimbursing you for the labour because they didn't fit it the first time.

All you are entitled to is a replacement part if faulty, one of the risks associated with non franchised work.

Some good news....spoken to Vx dealer and they have agreed to put car on Tech 2 and if the actuator motor is found to be faulty, they have agreed to replace part and refit under warranty at no cost to me!!

So fingers crossed the fault shows up the same as it did at the other Vx dealership.
