I would take it back to the garage who fitted the pump etc...

Sounds like they have disconnected the loom for the road speed sensor, whilst tatting about in the engine bay.
You could look for any disconnected plugs in the gearbox sender area or near the front wheel speed / abs sensor (not sure which side supplies the signal to the ECU).

That would be my first port of call!!

As if by chance...look at this thread....someones answered your query on an identical query..
Check the ABS connector plug as shown in the photo.

thanks for the advice.i will look at the wiring plugs. and try some wd40. but if it was a abs plug fault .would the abs light would come on?. on mine its just the speedo and the cruise control and the central display.not showing range/speed. the rest of the instrument cluster works fine.could it be the speedo head ?

i have checked the things suggested on my thread. i have swapped the speedo head with another car and it works ok in that . but now i have now found that the plug into the abs pump looks as if it as been changed all the wire have been cut and rejoined. but their is one wire coming from terminal 3 on the plug that goes no ware. any ideas. or where can i get a wiring diagram.

I read in the other thread that some plugs were replaced / upgraded.due to original plug connector pins being too short and not reaching properly...yours may have had this, will look at my Vx database for the connector pinouts for this and report back as soon as I can

What year plate is your registration
    2002 to 2004 (52 to 04 plate)
    2004 to 2005 (54 to 55 plate)
    2006 to 2008 (06 to 58 plate)

This is important as Vx went through it's changes to wiring and components through the years
