Default new pads - how much!!!!

Dealers want £160 to change the front pads on my 3.0. They are big pads, but bloomin hell does that sound expensive to you?

That does sound a lot. An hours labour @ £40 makes the cost of the pads £120 - which is far too much IMO.

Pad and disc kit for the V6 models is 72 squid + VAT. There's bound to be someone near you who can do it for you though, and if not I can pop down from Oxford for a small fee and sort you out...

would have done the job myself, but don't have the tools (rewind tool, axel stands etc etc).

Thanks for the offer Penfold, but it's a long way to come for a set of pads.

Think I may ring another dealer just to check.

You don't need a rewind tool for the front pads. You can also improvise if you haven't got axle stands. Throw an old wheel or block of wood under the sills in case the jack slips. Changed many a set of pads with just the jack alone and made sure that no part of my body is EVER under the car should it slip or let go.

No need for rewind tool on the fronts mate, just a way of bleeding them if you disconnect the hoses (which is the easiest way to push the caliper back in in my experience...)

ah, thought the how to, which referred to rewind tool, was on the fronts. May give it a go then.

    Thanks
