Exclamation Dashboard dies, then comes back on...

Hi, first of all I'm new here, however I regret that my first post is about a problem.

I have a Vectra C 2004 model, now I've seen a lot of people with this same problem, however they got different solutions to their problems.

I'll tell you how it happens:

    1. The smaller lights at the bottom of the dashboard display come on.

    2. A bigger light will come on the in squarish display (either a steering wheel with an exclamation mark, or a guy wearing a seatbelt )

    3. The needles will will all drop, and all of the instruments on the display are gone including the mileage!

    4. It comes on when I restart the car, or whenever it feels like it.

I must note that during step 2, if I press the hazard lights, the sequence stops, and this problem does not occur.

I actually have a fault code: U2103 - which is something about communication with the CAN-BUS. I told Vauxhall that I had this diagnostic done, but they seemed very keen to charge me £69 for another diagnostic because they weren't sure I had the right code.

So, I've seen various solutions, change the CIM module, clean the ABS plug, change the fuses (I checked them and they seemed fine), quite frankly the CIM module sounds like a huge job, I think I'd like to try to clean the ABS plug first. The problem is I'm sure how to pull the things out.

Could anyone perhaps instruct as to how to remove this thing, do I need to disconnect the battery in order to do this?

    Cheers!

I just disconected the battery as I do when messing with anything electrical. On the end of the plug are two sunk bits that fit your finger ends, pull that bit towards the batterie box and the plug will lift off. TBH though yours sounds like a CIM fault but its free to try the ABS plug. If you want I'll do a pick when I get home of what to pull.

Here you go, pull the yellow circled bit and the plug will just lift off. To lock it back on just push the plug on and push back the lock HTH

Cheers for that! Wasn't quite sure which way to remove the thing, it's a bit dark now so first thing in the morning I'm gonna try this!

Yeh it looks like it the CIM, I also noticed that the mileage doesn't seem to change whilst it is off which indicates the CIM. Looks like I'm gonna have to book this one in at Vauxhall.

Just been to the Vauxhall garage, they done a diagnostic, and they've charged me nothing because there's apparently nothing wrong with it. They recommended I bring it in straight away as soon as the problem occurs.

    Huge update:

I took the car back to the same Vauxhall garage, knowing that they wouldn't find anything wrong with it I gave them a fault code: U2103, that was previously showing up (before the codes were wiped).
They obviously found that code to be true, this code means that there is no communication to the Can Bus. They told me the wiring loom needs to be totally rewired and are charging me £340 for it, I managed to bring it down to £300, apparantly it's not an easy job and a few of the connector pins need to be replaced. They also said this should definitely fix this problem.

I really love this car and plan to have it for a few years so I think this is a worthy investment.

Wow, re-wiring's the same as a new CIM? I suppose with a new CIM they use the existing wiring.
