    Its horses for courses mate.

    For normal driving, personally I change 1 - 2 @ 2500rpm and 2 - 3 at around the same engine speed.

For motorway acceleration, eg joining, I will run it up to around 4000rpm in 3rd to get maximum acceleration out of it.

As long as you dont over rev it, the motor will be fine, just a bit more thirsty at higher revs.

Thanks mate-Jody did say not to go too mad in 1/2 (as I did hammer it on the test drive, Lol), but wanted to check what was probably the best sort of range..cheers

I find that the max power is at 4000rpm on my 150, so I dont tend to run it past that point as it doesnt give any more power but uses more fuel.
Power comes in at about 1500rpm via the turbo so its pretty much up to you what revs you use.....

When cruising, its 6th gear and just a shade over 2k revs. Only use the power to accelerate upto 70 mph then its cruising all the way. Dont make a habbit of raggin the balls out of the engine all the time.

Generally use around 3000 rpm for a nice brisk drive. When cruising I use a gear to give between 1500 and 2000 rpm wherever possible. First gear on the Vectra is stupidly low so I frequently take it up to 4000 otherwise you're on and off the pedals in a silly dance.

I find 1st gear hard to get any real power unless I rev to 3000-4000 and then it takes off like a rocket but have to change into 2 nd quickly to stay on the turbo as 1st runs out really quick.

nice and steady in 1st and 2nd otherwise you will have to stop to go and pick up the gearbox

then if you want to give some beans in 3 rd onwards

it takes ages to get used to driving turbo diesels

But also remember to take it through the revs every now and again otherwise it will clog up with soot and you get egr problems. There is also a theory behind the swirl valve problem that the car needs to be spanked every now and again to reduce the change of it failing.

In other words, if you don't use it you'll lose it
