Default Coolant top up and pressure cap query

The coolant light came up yesterday and I've just checked the coolant level and it does need topping up. From reading on here I think I am best using VX's magiic antifreeze potion....am I right??
Also the pressure cap seems to take loads of turns to tighten up. How tight should this be?? Should it be the tightest I can get it or not? I have had cars in the past where it feels like spring loaded and almost pops into place. Should the diagram on the top of the cap face the front of the car?

Yes i would use the vx coolant.
The cap should get tighter as you turn it, but i wouldnt say it needs loads off turns. Its just a matter off feel.
There is no stop as to speak just dont over tighten it. Wonder if thats where your coolant is going, via the filler cap if its threaded.

Quite possibly mate. It doesn't feel as if it is threaded and it is tightening but it seems to take forever. Can you buy new caps as stand alone items?

I bought one for my Frontera from Halfords - was exactly the same unit and colour as the standard Vx one, think it was only a tenner or something.

Mine does the same as yours, turns forever before getting real tight, and my coolant needs topping up every 4 weeks! Saying that not got round to getting one yet

Going to dealers later to get some VX anti freeze and will price up cap. I'll top it up and keep an eye on it over the next few weeks. Fingers crossed it is just the top up and possibly a new cap it needs.
