They are the best engine imo, although when they go wrong they are expensive, but then all modern diesels are.

If you chip a euro 4 version you are in danger of killing the dual mass flywheel - £700, HP fuel pump £3000........
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Ive got a 3.0 Signum, the engine is a peach when its running fine. A few of us have had trouble recently. Its really smooth, lots of torque and great on the motorway. Its a heavy engine though so handling definitely suffers.

If its an 05 then its a pre facelift, meaning you can remap them or put on a tuning box. Ive got a box and its a beast with it on, totally transformed.

    Vehicle : Opel Signum

    Trim : Sport

    Engine : 3.0 CDTI

    Year : 12/03

They're great lumps. Very reliable, best if left standard. Do not chip/box even if it's a prefacelift.

    Faults:
DMF as mentioned on the manual box
EGR (all diesels are weak here)
    Cylnder liners (catastrophic engine failure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
    Headgaskets

I bought a high miler and so far the cylinder liners are still good. I'm warning you though...

Its still not a great idea, but they do seem to tollerate it a bit better.

Never seen a vec with the liners dropping, just the sabbs due to undersized rads.

No on all, some get away with it, some have had them blow the hp pump after 100 miles.

    DMF = dual mass flywheel

EGR = exhaust gas recirc valve

Try one and see its the in gear torque that gets you going, open one up in forth at 40mph!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
