    Default Loose gearknob

Any idea how to re-secure it ? There's a few mm of end float developed with an annoying pop noise everytime I change gear. It's in the actual knob, as if I hold the shaft securely, I can move the knob up and down

Having reduced the young girl at the local dealers to tears querying whether I could claim warrenty for my knob, and explaining the above, she declined inspecting it.....

I know there's a thread on how to remove one which involves destroying it, but I just want to re-secure mine.

    Default

Get it replaced under warranty. It will come off when driving, mine did.

Can cause issues when you try and select first and end up in reverse, thank **** my reverse parking sensors beep when i hit reverse. Was a bit scary. hth

They claim this is not covered under warrenty despite the car only being 2 1/2 years old

    Default Same here

Join the knob lifters club guys. I had the same problem, but as it was under two years old, they fixed it under warranty. In fact they replaced the whole stick/linkage and cover, albeit not with the same quality, but it works and touch wood is staying put. These things shouldn't happen nowadays!!

    Default Knob lifters

Yeah, I'm a member - mine had that play until one day when changing from 1st to 2nd thing came off completely! The knob appears to be an interference fit and held in place by self gripping teeth on inside. It needs to be carefully aligned and smacked smartly downwards with flat of hand. After several 'pull-offs' it seems to be firmly held now.
Just don't panic if comes off in hand as there is a spring inside which is used for the reverse selector.

Default Another one with a flying knob

Exact same probs. It's been bouncing everywhere although I've got use to changing gear without it. I'll try the flat hand slap as suggested. Otherwise I'll try the warranty route. I would say it's actually a safety concern and clearly a sloppy design fault. Surprised Vauxhall have'nt done anything e.g. recall.
