Default How to lose a sale!

One of my other vices is golf. *I'm pretty good at digging divots!

Anyway I decided to change my fairway woods recently and the pro at my club gave a go of what's called a hybrid club. * Sold on the idea I went to a large shop and range just outside Chester on Friday. *Conversation went a bit like this:

Shop: Good afternoon sir ( good start)

Me: Hello I would like to replace my fairway woods with hybrids. What do you have?

Shop: oh*ok. *Well we have this gadget that measures your swing parameters. *You'll have to use that first at £25. *But you get it back if you buy a set.

Me: Right where is it then (already feeling miffed but may be worth a look)

Shop:**it's in use can you wait an hour?

Me: No! Can't I just see what you have and have a go on the range ( as inormally do and most places do)

Shop:*Oh no sir! *We can't help you till you have been on the machine. * What you need to do is book in and we'll sort you out. *Give us 3 days notice though!

Me: Oh ok, I'll be in touch then (with another shop)

Sale lost, I was gonna take some mates there for new sets....sales lost. *I can't believe they didn't want me to test a product a then buy it.

Imagine going to by some tyres and be told that you have em till you have used the rolling road

They could have least have let you see what range they carried. TBH though Steve it is worth having a go with the machine to point you in the right direction. The club I got mine from didn't have a machine but the Club Pro. was just brilliant. I arrived with a hook and left with draw. Still can't putt though.

I'm having a similar issue but with after sales stuff at a place in Queensferry. Yesterday we went to Defcon 2.

Steve, all my clubs are custom fit and I know my swing. The pro at heswall teaches some of the European pros so he knows his stuff. I find it incredible the shop wouldn't show me their range without using a machine. The shop in question custom fitted my irons. Still at least I haven't got the grief of clawing cash back.

Perhaps they're thinking that you may damage their test clubs, the wrong swing speed combined with the wrong shaft flex can result in damage to the clubs.
For example, high swing speed and a very flexible carbon shaft = shaft breakage over time as the shaft develops microscopic impact fractures.

I've seen this happen to one of those pillocks down the range, the type who shout/scream/grunt as they smash balls about 200yds with a badly fitted driver (while im hitting the back fence with a 12yr old custom build 3W) lol

Anyhow.... They're either cheapskates who want to sell the testers at a high price at the end of the season or they don't want you testing something that wont work for you because it'll just put you off buying.

They should at least explain their reasoning.....
