Default Tax disc out of date crackdown

Walked down my road yesterday and there was a car with a big notice plastered on the windscreen saying 'Tax expired on this vehicle' a wheel clamp on the front wheel and a plastic wallet also stuck to the windscreen which presumably contains a fine from the DVLA.

We don't have a parking warden here so I guess it must be the police doing this?

Anyway, this evening that car had gone but there were 2 more plastered and clamped!

I've seen loads like that in the past. Not so many lately, because they usually send the fine straight to your house now - if the computer says "no they haven't paid, and they didn't apply for SORN" an automatic penalty is issued. Nowhere to hide now, tax dodgers. If only they could get a grip on insurance dodgers too.....

Those vans are a regular in my street (3 or 4 times since May), I suspect it's because my Westfield kitcar is under SORN and has been for some time, perhaps they're thinking "hmmm kitcar off the road in the middle of summer? yeah right!" :P

These have been going for years
There are hot spots in some cities where many untaxed vehicles may be

The car can be clamped as soon as the tax disc has expired
However, they don't normally do this until 7 days has passed and the fine has been sent by postal method

Remember, there is no 14 days "no tax disc" grace period, but you can still display an expired tax disc when a replacement has been paid for AND is in the post to you from the DVLA
Equally, their database will show that payment has been made and the tax disc in the post
However, the instructions only allow you 7 days, after which if you have not received the tax disc then you MUST contact them
