    Default New Signum Owner

hey all, just bought a 55 plate signum design, didnt go looking for one, needed to replace the Freelander (dont ever buy one unless you have deep pockets and dont mind routing around in the corners for evey last bit of change).
Anyway as i said we didnt go looking for a signum but saw one on a forecourt and it looked a good buy, just over 6K and with 56K on the clock, a lot of car for the money i thought. So i pick it up this coming saturday and i dont really know a lot about theese cars so a little 'surfing' has brought me here.
Im off for some seriuos reading

Congratulations on a great choice of car. Mine just keeps surprising me - all these little 'gimmicks' like seats which slide forward when you thought there was no more room in the boot, low load height, completely flat load area a full six feet long - it's all really useful stuff. And I didn't even buy it for practical reasons. All the rest is great too. You've got yourself a very underrated gem.

Its a 2.2 petrol in black

Just a quick question guys, when i looked at it my first thoughts were 'high milegae' its got a few stone chips and the paint work is not fantastic, also the drivers seat (half leather bit) seemed a little bit worn, dealer put it down the the bulk of the previous owner.
Also read a thread here about a signum being clocked and now im a little weary/worried. called the dealers to get MOT cert number to do MOT check but he hasnt called me back yet

    thoughts plz

56K is nothing mate - a decent mileage is a sign of a car that has been reliable...

I've just bought a 07 plate Signum with 82K on it...

as Martin said the mileage is fine - mines on 96k on an 04

the paintwork can be "corrected" and theres always interiors popping up on ebay
you can get the seat bolters "refinished" as well by a smart repair
probably £60 - money well spent

wait for the mileage check to come back - then go with your head and not your heart

    Thanks for the info guys

Just did the MOT checker and as the car has only 1 previuos mot, couldnt tell a lot from it, only that the mileage was recorded at 46,274, so in fairness it looks ok.

Just one more quickie if i may then ill start posting in the forums, front windscreens have the rain sensor biult in i believe, looking at the mot checker this car has had the windscreen changed, is there a chance that the screen can be replaced without this sensor?

it could be - but most people would have claimed via their insurance
so no reason why it would not be ??

easiest way to test is to jump in start the car ... push the wiper stalk up once
then pop back out lick your finger and grag it across the dark sensor area in the top middle of the screen...
if its working then it should "detect" the moisture and wipe the screen
the sensitivity can be adjusted by the lever on the top of the stalk and this might need to be "tweaked" dependant on its current position

i know with some manufacturers IF the screen is replaced the rain sensor is separate and sometimes the "jelly" portion get left on the old screen
thus rendering the sensor useless and requiring a whole new sensor

    regards
