Eek 1.9 CDTI problems after cam belt change

    Hi all,

I did a homer on my cambelt and water pump. Now its being a complete pig to start no matter what time of day I try it. Just wondering if the engine timing could cause it to start badly. When its running its completely fine. The little car with spanner through it comes on for the first minute or so after i start but then goes off. I changed my glow plugs at the weekend and this has not had any impact at all.

Can the engine run if the timing is out at all?

Anybody in central scotland got a timing setting kit i could borrow for saturday afternoon to see if that would cure it?

    JP

There is no need for a timing kit if you pay a little attention. Have you rotated the engine 2 full revolutions after you installed the tensioner?

Just remove the cover and check the mark again on the camshaft pulley and the crank shaft pulley to be ok. First one must be in 1 o'clock position, second one at 5 o'clock position.

    Default !

ok number 1, dont drive your car,

Buy a timing kit they are about 60 quid. Mine dropped a valve, ruined a piston and destroyed the head. So if you can get a timing kit it`ll be a hell of a lot cheaper than what i paid!

so new pisto, con rod, piston rings, head shells and a lot of labour.

Simple as buy a timing kit!

ok thanks, I have started it but not driven anywhere, it did start first time but not after that, not sure if I've already done damage, can I ask if yours is the 150 or the 120?

    confused timing kit for 120

Don't suppose anyone here can lend/hire me a timing kit for a 1.9 cdti 120?
or is it even worth trying?

Should I do a compression test first?
