engine rattle on start up

hi when i start my 2.2 sri there is alot of noise like a chain rattle, it quieties down after a min or 2 but there is still a little rattle any ideas

i may be wrong but i recall the 2.2 having cam chain problems ?? , search on this site and it should reveal your probem.

Hi mate, its not really wise to drive it, when the chain starts to rattle you need to get it sorted ASAP or it could end up costing you a new engine. When they rattle its on its last legs mate.

My chain went without any rattle,was lucky did no major damage,only needed chain and asosiated parts to fix but that was still over the £500 mark.Was also lucky was'nt me paying.Get it checked ASAP.

cheers for all the info, i have put car in a local garage, he is going to strip it tomorrow and let me know. he thinks it sounds like the chain tentioners or runners, at worst new chain and accsessories i hope thats all it needs. going to get full service done whilst its there will update tomorrow

Main chain kit should cost around £100, then there is the balancer chain, again about another £100, make sure you get genuine GM kits mind, as the tensioner has been updated from the one fitted to your car.
