    Default Our New Vectra Design

On Wednesday we'll pick up our new 58 plate Vectra Design to replace the current 54 plate SRi. We'd been looking at a very late 59, but eventually opted for this 12,000 miler. Previously owned - from new - by Vauxhall.

We've decided to go for the 1.9CDTi 120 this time having run the 150 SRi version for the last three years.

The Design trim gives a nicer finish inside and as it'll be used for private hire, the leather will be very welcome as it's easier to keep clean and will hopefully wear better than the standard velour seats.

Had we kept the SRi, the suspension would have been replaced in December - we also had suspension work done the same time last year. The thought is that the 120 version will be a bit lighter-going on the speed bumps, which is important as we're hoping to get 140,000miles out of the car...

    Comments welcome, guys...

having had a design and now an sri , i would go sri everytime and sod the extras, the ride and handling of the sri is far better than the design , my old one handled like a p155ed tramp and the steering weighed up terribly mid corner . also if you have the half vinyl interior thats what it is not leather , prefer the cloth me self !

We've done the change... the SRi has gone and we've got the Design. Only picked the car up this time yesterday, but we're very happy with it.

I've always loved the Silver Lightning, but it's nice going back to the Star Silver again.

It was quite sad taking the SRi back to the dealer we bought it from three years ago, but we've had good use out of the car and put 120,000+ miles on it...

    Bye Bye SRi...

    The New Car...

... and with the plates and aerial, ready for work...

It's quite strange I suppose to buy a 10-month-old car and, as soon as you pick it up, have somebody drill a hole in the rear wing (to mount the aerial for the taxi radio). Also had to get the windows etched with the reg. number and go for the MOT-style taxi test. All this in the first day and then straight back to work...

The trim level debate has raged for years - personally I'd say it was easier to buy an elite with all the toys and the wiring to add in any it didn't have, and then upgrade the suspension and handling rather than buying a good handling one and having to retrofit all the toys...

My opinion also, although we do usually leave our cars completely standard. We are looking though at the moment for a late old shape (Vectra B) on a 51 or 02 plate to play with. Just because we've always liked them.If anybody happens to have a late SXi or SRi out there, then we may well be interested.

Nice (new) car, but I think I like the old wheels better.
