    Default Defibrillator

I have been a First Aider at work for several years now. But today I was trained in the use of a Defibrillator. I found it very interesting and easy to use. It seems that they are using these machines more and more now with CPR. They improve the chances of survival by quite a lot. I think in the not too distant future they will be "pocket size" so all first aiders will be able to carry them. No doubt the Ambulance and Fire men will know what I mean about their use. Also I was shown and given instructins how to give oxegen, all very usefull knowlege to have.

They were rolled out at our place a few months ago. Seems very simple to use
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Yep very good things to have around and they are idiot proof as they won’t let you do anything you are not suppose too. We have them on some of our appliances but not all as they have been donated by local communities.

However, they are getting more and more common in places like health centres & supermarkets etc so you should always have one close if you live in towns. Although in my area we have local First Responders who carry them and they are just regular members of the public who respond to a call from a doctor to help out in local communities until an ambulance arrives.

Thank God for our caring sharing side.

I am a clinical engineer in manchester, and I receive updates every two years on CPR and defib usage...
Never had to use it yet, and I wouldn't really like to...
The new defibs are idiot proof so you can't shock anyone unless they need it.
And also they tell you what to do in clear pictures and voice commands...

quite reassuring in such a scary / critical situation.

Yes. with the knowlage of CPR and the "spoken" instructions from the defrib" machine they are incredably easy to use. They will as said not give a "shock" to a casualty if they don,t need it. If The First Aider follows the instructions, and his CPR training hopefully a lot more lives will be saved. I can say this from experience. My mom had a heart attack. But sadly I was unable to revive her..................................

That's next for me to be trained up on.

Finished my 3 year First Aid re-qualification course on Tuesday.

No doubt in 3 years, the ratio for CPR will have changed again though!

For all those who have done CPR training....The first thing I think of is "Nellie the Elephant" at a brisk tempo.

Oh and no more mouth to mouth anymore!! (even via all the gadgets and face masks)

Yes I remember a fireman at our first aid training saying he does it the "nelly the elephant" method of counting. But not to do it out loud as bystanders might think you are being funny and not taking the situation seriously. But it is a very good way of counting the "press,s".
Mind you our test machine did tell us when to do the Two breaths though.
