Default vectra 150 55 Plate Failed MOT

Hi I have just came back from dealers with a Failed Mot Vectra. They reckon its got 3 cyclinders working out of 4 and that the front of exhaust is cracked. They originally thought it was egr valve, but they took that out and cleaned and it didnt resolve problem. It seems to be using alot of oil. Iam not sure what to do but think small garage is better bet. Do i go into diffrent garage with my failed mot results or let them pick up on them there selves. I dont want to be hurt in the pocket :-D

Go to a small garage with your fail sheet and let them sort it all. Then take it back to the original test station and get a retest (sometimes free or for a partial fee)

earlier this year I took my Astra in for its MOT which failed on the exhaust backbox.

Garage quoted me £200 for a stainless steel replacement. Which I laughed as the car only cost me £400

They then requoted £100 for a steel replacement... so I went elsewhere..

Shortly afterwards and a couple of phone calls...

£34.60 cash for replacement including fitting and VAT !!

Took it back and they charged me £10 for a retest which involved just to look at the exhaust, tick a box and print out my MOT Certificate... ripoff

It sounds like a bag of poo after leaving garage and its in safe mode. How much does it cost to replace a broken cylinder??

A cylinder is where the piston moves up and down mate, could be a number of reasons for why its not firing
As mentioned could be injector wiring
    Faulty injector
    Swirl flap problems etc.

If its the cylinder block/pistons you'll be talking mega bucks as in new engine but its very unlikely its that. Get the car onto diagnosis to see what fault codes are being given

if they have told you you have a broken cylinder how long did it take you to stop laughing?????????????????????/, GO ELSEWHERE FOR A 2ND OPPINION. look in the how 2s for 3rd injector wiring, try putting a screwdriver to each injector to listen for irregular noises, take off the egr again also in the how 2s give it a strip + good clean (don't forget to clean the hole where it fits to the manifold) clean the boost sensor (how 2s). if all fails ask friends or on site for a recommended garage near you. good luck
