Spanish crash course!!!

Hiya all

Well, this time next week, the Drinky clan will be making our final preparations before flying off to Spain (Salou, not far from Barcelona) We have not had a holiday for 8 years - so this is a good thing. However, owing to my studying French for A level, and Drinky spending most of his education learning how to stick bits onto cars, our combined knowledge of the Spanish language is...........shall I say, somewhat limited.

I have bought a Spanish phrasebook, full of useful stuff like "what time does the bullfight start" and "do you know of a good vegetarian restaurant" but we are a little lacking in the basics. Our daughter can say "My name is Natasha and I am twelve" but I suspect this may not get us through an entire week, and may not assist us greatly in the supermarket

Anyone out there with any Spanish knowledge who might like to provide a few well chosen phrases, we would be mighty grateful!!

GG - i wish i had remembered that advert when i went on holiday to Spain.

My girlfriend and i were in Barcelona a few weeks ago and we struggled with the language barrier, normally we go to a place where they speak French (my girlfriend is fluent) or we go to one of the Greek islands (seeing as i'm greek we don't have any probs).

But this is the first time in a long time where i found myself struggling to communicate, its quite frustrating because you expect (selfishly!!) that everyone speaks English.

Don't worry though, you get the hang of it, it's all part of going away! Numbers are definitely useful, and also being able to decipher the menu in restaurants.

Dont realy think this is going to be a problem as all men are fluent in shouting very loud and waving arms and as we all know this is the language of choice of BRITS on the p155!!!!!!!

The fella i work with took his family to salou last year, they had a ball, lots to do for the kids and plenty of places for good food.

I asked him if there were any language problems...his reply "only after 10pm when ive had too much" so i dont think it will be an issue acording to him..
