Default Changed BOTH Upper Control Arms - still knocks!!

    Hey all,

I changed both my upper control arms from the How2 on here as they were seriously banging and the MOT was due, so clanking/banging gone now, however I seem to be getting a different, quieter rattle/knock from the rear, I think more from the off side wheel.

The car passed the MOT with flying colours last week (only needed two front anti-roll links) so leads me to believe it's nothing major - but has anyone got any ideas what it maybe? My exhaust was a bit loose I noted when hitting it with the ratchet, but it's not an exhaust kinda sound, and again not picked up on the MOT.

    Where should I start looking??

    Cheers

Have you tried taking everything out of your boot and removing the parcel shelf then taking it for a drive?

I've found that my 'knocking' goes away when the parcel shelf is removed, not sure where it's knocking or what's it's knocking against...grrr

Right then - tried that last night, still knocks/rattles, no difference.

It's totally liveable, especially as it's far less than before I changed the control arms. Just wondered if there could be any other common faults.

Check your boot lock. They had a habit of not being adjusted properly and the boot would rattle. On the 'hook' part on the inside of the boot compartment, there are two bolts, undo them and move the hook downwards, tighten the bolts and give it a run

I think I may have that problem as i've noticed a creaking noise from the back of the car, especially when on uneven roads i.e the chassis is twisting slightly

Ok I'll change those next, I bought them when doing the arms, but the arms took so long time was running out, and I couldn't prise the damn thing apart so thought I was gonna brake the bridle (which wouldn't be good).

I'll try again next time I'm free, cheers

Thanks - I'll give this a go too, although I check the boot lid everytime I shut it to check it's closed properly and it doesn't move, but worth a go cheers!
