    Default Warning...................

Just spoken to local dealer and Vauxtech in Southampton with reference to a thread started by Fil 4822. Aparently if you have an after market HU and your cim module goes or you need a new key programming and even if you have the original HU tech 2ed from your car, you still need to keep the original HU because the tech 2 software works through the HU. If you do not have the original then this can cause a major expense when something as simple as a key being programmed is needed.

    KEEP YOUR OLD HU's

best ignor PM's from me Fill, sorry

I'm not sure if that's right. I replaced my head unit within about 5 months of buying the car. A few months down the line, my CIM packed in (not related as far as I know). The CIM was replaced under warranty, and the keys reprogrammed, and I wasn't asked for the original HU at any time.

I could be wrong, but I would have thought that the dealer would have asked for the original HU if there were any problems, or at least try charging me for the extra work involved.

I would suspect that it is the display that is needed to be kept, as this acts as the interface between the headunit, BCM,CIM, instruments and canbus system.
The head-unit acts as a "dumb" slave to the display iirc.

CIM's appear sometimes to be quite a weak unit, but I haven't heard of any other forum members having programming difficulties after they have replaced their head units.

Sorry to be-little Vauxhall, but a lot of their technicians are neither interested nor qualified enough to deal with the in-depth foibles of the canbus system...now and again you'll find a golden nugget who is able use some nouse to work out these things.
