    Default Swithering a change...

As per title i have been swithering a change of car but thinking about going back to a diesel

I have been looking at 5 door astra 150 XP's, get cracking deal's on 58 plate's with not alot of mile's on them. The reason im thinking about it as we are doing serious milage again 15-20k per year so its costing me a fortune in fuel but i REALLY like my 2.0T...so my head is up ma @rse

So opinion's guy's, do it to save a fortune or better the devil you know??

Test drive the Astra and think carefully about whether or not you can cope with a smaller car matey

Its tempting to have a newer car I must admit...

I've got a 5door 1.9cdti sri xp nav Astra and cant fault it..

Average about 560 - 600 miles to a tank (smaller tank than the Vectra)

There is a 58plate sri xp nav in black at my local dealership for £13495

    Astra. Go Drive!

It is tempting as i csn pick up a 58 plate XP for under 11k but i really like my car and its been faultless over the last 2.5 years, there is also the unreliability issue of the CDTi engine...

Driven the astra and it drives better than the vec's so thats not the issue, the biggest issue seem's to be if i can return to a DERV or not

    *cough* LPG *cough*

Personally I would never touch a 1.9 unless it was under a very comprehensive warranty, being newish it will be, but how long are you going to have it?

I'm at the same stage as you mate but i'm thinking of going the other way and getting something with a bit more oooommmf. Either a 2.0t or a 2.2Direct.

Why not get a 1.9astra cdti and get it re-mapped. I think they work with the sport button so you could choose between power and economy

If i bought a 1.9 it would be full warranty so thats not an issue.

John, the 2.0T is a minter of an engine so buy one and you wont regret it Tbh the more i think about it the more unlikely that im going to part with mine, even though 20k private miles per year is alot...

Well i must say I am convinced lol. Only probelm is I want one identical to what I have but with the 2.0t engine and low mileage. It means I can swap all of my stuff over, the hunt begins

have you worked out how long the change in car will take to pay for itself in fuel?

After driving a diesel mate, the words "2.2 Direct" and "oomph" don't go together... It has about 100lb/ft of torque LESS than the 1.9 150 (I stand to be corrected on the exact figure...) and having driven one for a few months I found it horrendous on both performance and fuel. Above 4K rpm it wasn't too bad, but like any non-turbo petrol you need to rev the nuts off it to go anywhere...

Havne't driven the 2.0 Turbo, but I'd imagine that was a lot better...

    Forced Induction FTW...
