VECTRA AUTO STICKING IN 5th GEAR

Hi All,

I became the owner of a vectra elite today, unfortunately I already have problems with the auto box and cruise control !!!

Its been fine on the journey home, but noticed the problem when i came to overtake a car and there was no kickdown, when I'm driving it sticks in 5th, when you try to change it manually it also stays in 5th, whatever you do it will only re-set if you turn ignition off and back on again. But problem comes back very quickly. Anyone have any ideas ??

Also the cruise control seems to be intermittant, sometimes work and oherimes teh light just flicks up and dissapears quickly. Tried pulling the brake pedal up but makes no difference, could the stalk be faulty ???

I'm going to ring the garage back up tommorw and tell them the issues, just wanted some suggestions of the solution ??

Where do you want to start ?

As far as high on the list goes :

Incorrect fluid level
Faulty Transmission ECU / firmware
Damaged/faulty selector switch
Internal Transmission fault/failure

If it's still under any kind of dealer/garage warranty the best thing you can do is get it back in there for them to sort out. The odd mention of any goods being 'fit for purpose' under consumer protection laws might be useful if they start suggesting it'll cost you.

Garage are taking the car back to have a look, they suggested a faulty solenoid, but we'll see !!!

When it comes back, check the fluid in the autobox just to make sure its not pink like milkshake!

I suggested the oil too, and he said there were a number of things they could try, hopefully they will sort it and it lasts longer than 6 hours !!

Just to confirm, i assume the 'milkshake' consistancy is due to that coolant issue i've been reading about. ??
