    Default egr, swirl and manifold

    hi everyone iv got a 54 150 cdti vectra, iv been looking on here and noticed common problem is manifold, do they just go or will it fail if i dont clean all the black sut off these parts, can anybody let me know how you go about this, also seen a thread were it says pull the ebgine cover off and lookt to see if swirl valve? is moving, surely my car wouldnt run properley if it has knackered, any info on the subject would be much appreciated, cheers james

    hi and welcome, firstly dont worry to much there are an amount of common problems with the 120/150 cdti engines but unless your very unlucky most can be solved with basic knowlege, pull the engine cover off, take the four rubber bungs off the pegs on the engine and replace them back onto cover ready to go back, at the top rear you will see a valley that may be oily or gunky in apearance, there are four round discs with a connecting rod, it is all part of the inlet manifold.pics are of the old type manifold thats shot, and a new type upgraded manifold.look here for pics of upgrade difference http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92579
