Default Fuel filter change on a 1.8 petrol

    Hi guys,

I'm planning on changing the fuel filter on my Vectra.
I've got the filter, but just not sure how to replace it.

I've checked through the service history, and I cannot see that it has ever been replaced.
I've had the car 4 years so far, and it's currently at 94k miles, so guessing it would benefit from a filter change.

I've checked the HOW2 section, and I can't see that one has been done for the filter (requested, but not yet on there).

Does anyone know how to change the filter?
When I do mine, I'll take photos etc, so I can add it to the How2 section.

    Thanks
    Dan

    Hey guys ,

It's fairly straight forward and simple, the fuel filter has 2 clips at either end, squeeze the little plastic clips together and the petrol line will come off (eventually ), repeat for the other end .

Replacing the filter is so simple, it will just push onto the fuel line at either side.

Obviously a little bit of fuel will come out thats in the filter it's self but it wont drain your tank

    Not a problem

It's on the off side near the rear wheel arch, you may need to jack the car up to be able to see what your doing properly as it is a pain for a start

The first one will take ages, the second one will be so easy once you've figured it out

    Thanks for the advise.

Do you need any special tools, or need to do anything special to remove it from the car? I don't want to break anything, as the fuel is a pretty bit deal.

Also, do I need to put some fuel in the new filter before connecting it, or is it ok with air in?

I used a pair of needle nose pliers, you've basically got to push the plastic clips in and pull it out, you can use your fingers if you can push it together

I didn't bother trying to fill it up with fuel tbh, just connected it and it's never had a problem , when you switch your ignition on, the fuel pump primes the line anyway

Best to release the fuel pressure first with the schrader valve on the fuel injecter manifold, just looks like a tyre valve. Last time I didn't bother and got an eyeful of petrol.

I tried using needle nose pliers to hold the clips in at the end, in order to pull the hose off, put it won't budge.
I don't want to keep messing with it because i'm worried about breaking the end of the hose.

As you can see from my photo, mine is really old, and definatly needs replacing (it's at least 4 years old. Maybe even been on car since new - 7 years, 52 plate.)
