    Default speakers work better?

Just a quick question, has anyone changed their oem head unit for like a pioneer or whatever and noticed that their sound system sounds alot better with the standard speakers and just a btter hu?

the reason i ask is because ive ordered a good pioneer unit but have the standard speakers which i admit are actually rather good but automatically turn down etc which really p***** me off as i sometimes like to just blast it .
but then again also thinking of maybe either,
    1- replacing the speakers
    2- fitting 6x9's
3- standard speakers and fitting a sub

the problem is im going to need most boot space as im expecting a little happy feet in november.
Any suggestions? Oh and yeh obviously would like to be gentle to the wallet

The stock speakers are by no means brilliant, but you will be surprised how just a HU upgrade will improve the sound quality.

I'd upgrage the standard size speakers and sound proof the doors and will you hear and feel a noticable difference between the stock and upgraded speakers.

    I did the following;
    1. Upgraded the head unit (Alpine)
    2. Fitted a subwoofer (Macaudio amp and JBL sub)
    3. Upgraded the front speakers (JBL components still running off the head unit)
    4. Amped the front speakers

At each stage I noticed a big improvement in the sound quality and the next stage is to sound deaden the doors and re mount the speakers so that it all sounds just right.
You'll be surprised what a difference each of these stages make!

i was thinking about amping the doors as i have a 900w 4 channel fli amp and a big fusion sub which kinda puts me off because of the size..

im glad changing the hu makes a differance at least!

amping the doors i think would be quite difficult thought would it not?
i should have the sterio on monday hopefully fitted then too, so like you guys said i will see how i feel with the sound then and i think the next port of call would be to try the sub and see if i like that.. if not change the speakers, i like jbl because ive heard they are rather bassey?
    thanks again lads!

Have a read of this, it shows how to mount and amp the front speakers and is the same way that I did it. Took me 3-4 hours altogether.

I went down the other route and stuck with the standard head unit, to continue using my carkit/ipod player, but changed the speakers for Sony ones. Did it on my previous Corsa c too. Big improvement, without changing the speaker size, just make. Bit of a pain doing the fronts though....
