Question Speeding ticket - what should I do?

    Hi folks,

Well, for the first time I have been caught speeding. I was doing 50MPH in a 40MPH zone. Very annoying really as the road I was on was national speed then drops down to 40 for a filling up station then back up to national speed.

Anyway. Whats done is done, so I'm faced with:

3 points on my license and £60 fine

    Or

Speed awareness course - £85 and possibly loosing a full days work (if they can't do it on a Sat). So a total sum of nearly £200.

    What would you do?

Depends on your age. If your aged 40+ then 3 points won't make much difference on insurance. If your only say 19 then it will. If it was me personally i'd take the course.

points will affect your insurance for the next 5 years - as they have to be declared -then you have to pay the dvla to remove them as well

no brainer really = speed awareness course wins my vote

Points stay on your license for 4 years, but are valid for only 3 years.

Do the course, but you are only aloud to do one course every three years. In your case this does not matter.

Once you have done the course, you are given a letter clearing you of any offence and you don't even have to declare it to your insurance as you have not been prosecuted. I got one in Jan this year!

But having a father in law who is a magistrate helps with finding out what you will and won't get if you get done for something.

I got done for the fist time in 10 years last November, so if I get done again I'll have to take the points.
