    Default Help, desperate (long shot).

I know that I should post this in the "wanted" forums, however, no one other than paid up members will see it if I do. So, if the mods want to delete or move this post I fully understand, however, I'm desperate so this is a plea for help and I hoped as many people as possible would see it...

My ex-partner has just phoned me to say her car (my old '54 plate 2.0T SRi Estate) has just failed it's MOT on both exhaust back boxes having lost mounts and being "unsafe". It's a one piece unit that goes from a single pipe in the middle to the twin back boxes (one either side) at the rear.

She's being quoted absolutely stupid prices to replace it and even using my contact in Vauxhall who gives me trade club prices, the best I've got it down to is £300 inc VAT. Neither her or me have anything like that sort of money spare and she needs the car to run my two kids around desperately. The MOT expired yesterday on it (yeah I know she left it kind of late).

I can't afford the proper going rates so am desperately hoping someone may have one laying around in their garage/shed or whatever, thats left over from a performance upgrade or something (don't care how old it is as long as it's intact and serviceable and all the brackets are intact). I will try and arrange payment of some kind from somewhere but really really cant afford much.

Anyone able to help? Am desperate here.

There was someone selling one on here recently. I don't know if it's available still.

i would whip it to your local garage/exhaust centre and ask if they can make up some new mounts for you. Thats all they do on custom fit.
    worth a try?

Unfortunately, already been tried, apparently there's not enough left to weld any new mounts to.

    sorry to hear that mate.

one of the mounts on my centre section has rusted off but still went through an mot/taxi test without a mention, although the other monts hold it in place ok.
    good luck!!

Had a similar thing on my current 2.2 SXi when it failed the MOT on exhaust mounts broken earlier in the year. A local place welded them back up for me saying "they wont hold for long mate". Took it back to the MOT station who basically said the same thing but passed it. The mounts promptly fell back off again the next day. *phew*

Unfortunately this means I know mine is also going to need doing soon, but at the moment its holding and solid thankfully.

The twin box is more for looks than efficiency, so if you can't afford the full set, why not just stick a single on, untill you can find the monies??

You can buy none SRi systems for less than £100 and any good motor factors mate. They will be the hidden type with the down turned tip but other than that i'd say its a winner.

Curiously, these are the downturned ones on it that we've been quoted fortunes to replace.

Didn't think the single box was a straight fit onto it so will need to look into that as an option.
