    Exclamation Vauxhall charges for diagnostics

Hi all. Here's my first post!

I have a Signum 2.2Dti Auto, which I have had for a week now. The day after I bought it, it began to cut out when coming to a stop.

I could re-start and drive off, but as time went on ( a few days) it would then only start after I'd let it cool down.

So, I took it into my local V'hall dealer to get it looked at.

Here's the breakdown of the final bill.

    1. DAY1: Initial checks - £112.50
    These showed codes :
    - P0638 (electronic throttle sensor high input)
    - P1222 (Injection Pump Malfunction)
    - P0638 (electronic circuit negative)
    - Deviation P606 (ECU)

    2. DAY 2: Further checks into trouble codes - £52.50
    3. DAY 3: Replaced throttle valve sticking - £112.50
    Manifold Intake - £191

    Total 468.50 (£538.78 inc VAT)

What do you guys think? Should they have needed a 2nd session of diagnostics? Should they have taken 3 days?

Also, "Replaced throttle valve sticking" - is the part used here a Manifold intake?

    Thanks people.

Bl--dy hell not what you need after buyimg a new car. Did you buy it private or a garage. Even if you bought it private you could say it was not fit for sale and check the word description in the advert.

Regarding your faults you will need some one elses views as im not good when it comes to fault finding.

    And welcome to the forum

I bought it from a garage, who has agreed to pay for repair costs - not diagnostics though.

£112.50 is extortinate for a tech 2 if that was all that was done on average the cost for a tech 2 should be around £50-70 so i would question exactly what they did to justify that cost.

Agred that £112 is robbery for a diag

An interim service cost me £150 form Vx, and that includes a diagnostics session, oil (£45 on its own!), filter, etc...

BUT I think that the original garage shuold be paying for the diagnostics - its part of the process neccassary to identify a faulty part.

Its just labour really, and esentially what the garage are saying is they wont pay for labour...

If you bought from a garage, and you have only had it a week, the garage should cover all the costs. You will be able to throw the sales of goods act at him if he gets difficult.

    I agree
£112.50 is extremely high for TEC2
The normal chareg is 1 hours labour

Equally, diagnostics is part of the repair process
Hand over the receipt (keep a copy yourself) and give the garage 14 days to pay in full

If they fail to do so, then proceed with a small claims court case
If you get this far let us know

What type of warranty has the car come with? (it should be underwritten under the FSA rules)
Who owns the car, yourself outright or is it on finance?

Finally, if the car has no underwritten warranty, are you prepared to and would it be worth you buying one?

    Thanks for all the replys.

So, I have two parties to contend with here - VX and the garage!

It does have 3 months warranty, however after speaking with trading standards - they agree with you guys - I should not have to pay a penny. So I have writtern to the garage with a copy of the bill - will keep you posted.

With regards to the VX charges - it amazes me how they could charge £190 to diagnose.

Do you think they really needed a 2nd round 'checks' to find the fault?

Your problem, legally, is that you should have given the garage the chance to fix or replace first.

If you have taken it to Vauxhall off your own back, you may not be able to claim the diagnostic costs against the garage.
