    Default vetra sri 19cdti help

    picked up a car from dealership on friday night , drove 5 miles then put car into cruise , next thing engine went into max revs with no power in gears, managed to pull into layby but on removing the key engine would still not cut out, after 6 minutes and so much smoke from back end engine finally died, got it towed back to garage and next morning they tried to just say it was the swirl valve that caused this and it would be fixed, i have told them there was no way i`m taking this car, but has anyone else had same problem ? i think there was more to it than this as they just replaced clutch so had gear box out also, but as i said it happened minute i hit cruise control, and would you take a car after 6 minutes of red lineing ?

    Doesn't sound good, i'd reject it tbh. Was it running on its engine oil somehow? was it over filled?
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    I remember Mike Rutherford (or someone similar) writing about this in their Auto Express column recently...over filling the oil causing the engine to runaway even after key removal, causing the engine to eventually blow up.

    Over filling the oil is definitely negligent! Seem to be well within your rights to reject the car, unless you are happy for them to replace the engine on the car?

    If the dealer gives you any hassle, speak to Consumer Direct for help with regards to your rights, they have a section on their website specifically for cars:

    I would not keep it m8, do you mean just picked up as ( brought) or from having it fixed ?
    if its on the Networkq, use the 30 day exchange !
    Swirl valves might cause the smoke, but not the other issues !

    Either over filling or the turbo bearings have went - GET RID IMMEDIATELY otherwise £3k at least for a new engine.

    no it was just bought, that was my opinion also if swirl valve went that it would blow a little smoke end of story, but they are saying that is only problem, i know it wasnt as car run on for 6 minutes with key turned off and in my hand, they have offered me a vectra elite in its place if i want it, otherwise full cash refund, would you take the elite or money back and go for something other than a vectra ??????

    can you put the reg no of this car up please or pm me it,i buy vectra cdti`s at glasgow auctions and i`m looking for another right now and i deffo don`t want to get lumbered with that one as that`s where it will most likely end up

    Who was the dealer, if they are a national company then I would take the Elite. It looks as if they know they have not got a leg to stand on, but obviously won't admit it.
    The problem could well have been too much oil, as I seem to remember reading something about that a while back.
