    Thumbs up Insignia on Friday

I collect my Insignia on Friday, how are you getting on with the "non hand brake " ?
There is a bonus to this type hand brake and 6 speed box, plus the size of the car my wife says she will not be driving it !!!.

Ive had one as a hire car for the last few weeks, works fine but really cant get used to it, just flicking a switch just doesnt give that feeling that you have the hand brake applied properly.

I had a Passat on hire for a few weeks & the thing used to release it's self just by dropping the clutch when in neutral...

The lease company said it shouldn't do that but it did & would do it regular...

on my auto, you don't have to release it just give it a bit of extra throttle than normal.

The manual does say this can lead to increased wear but as it is a company car not too bothered.

It is a bit slower to put on than a manual handbrake, well seems to be but i have just changed my routine to suit it. flick it on 1st then put into 'park' and turn off ignition, by then it has locked according to display.

You just pull away, handbrake comes off at about 1500 - 2000 RPM, must have some form of torque sensor.

The car puts the handbrake on for you on hills over a certain angle and comes off when you give it a bit of gas. Takes some getting used to, especially remembering to switch it on when you park, I have always parked in gear but even more so with the Insignia, just in case .
I've found the clutch starts to smell if you hold the car on it for even shortish periods never had this problem with the vec or signum.
