Default Another Autobox gone!! where do I stand??

As per my previous posts a few months ago... My Autobox is knackers on my 2002 52 plate GSI. Its been to a specialist who's flushed it... new oil un-blocked the strainer and managed to get it running again.. but said it wouldnt last... and it didnt (as most of you had said!!)

Its a AF33 .... Known to be troublesome with everyone on here ... and by Vauxhall!!

The trouble is its going to cost £2000 plus too fix and i cant afford it!!! Cant find a recon box for under £1500 plus vat plus fitting and new torque converter etc!!

It Had the recall done last year (over 12 months ago) to get the Faulty oil seals done in the gearbox oil cooler... But the specialist who's got my car at the moment have said the problem is caused by coolant in the Transmittion oil????

Has anyone else tackle VX about this?? I phoned customer care at VX and they said they would look into it but because of the cars age it proabaly wont go anywhere and its well out of warrenty. I told them it had the recall done, but this obviously hasnt be done correctly or has failed.

The Box is obviously problematic... they know this... we know this... but where do we legally stand?????

there are several listed remedy or service bulletins on here refering to this problem from Vauxhall and they state that should the cutomer make a complaint.. the gearbox should be replaced... but does this only apply to vehicles in warrenty??

Does anyone know of any possative out comes to similar stories?? Or any help at all would be appriciated!!

Its crazy!!! VX want over £3000 for the repair... to fix a common problem that they are fully aware of but fail to do nothing about??!!

    Sorry for the Rant...

And thanks for your input in advance

The question you need the answer too is as its had the recall done and still failed, if they put a new box in for £3k it could still fail again due to the recall being done wrong or what ever!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I know u were right Poves... worth trying something before Writing it off completely tho I guess!!I'll send u a PM too.. just too find out how you went about breaking you Veccy!!

The Only Lifeline I have is that it Went into Vauxhall for recall on the transmittion oil cooler seals... Spoke to the Stealer today who said the recall they have done is nothing to do with the transmittion oil.. and if there recall was faulty... it would only give an external leak and not internal??!!

    shows how much they know!!!

So supprised they've got away with this for so long... and after so many complaints!!! 7o odd thousand miles... on an autobox/car with full service history... and its shot!!!

has anyone ever got anything off VX towards fixing there box on an older car??

It's the same box that SAAB,Renault,Vauxhall,Opel,Volvo etc fit to a good majority of their early 2000 period cars.So there should be quite a few second hand ones out there to choose from. Not a great autobox though by all accounts.

Well A bit of an Update.... VX said they arent aware of having multiple issues with this gearbox???? according to there customer support team!!!!!!!

They also told me that the service manager in my local VX dealers said that The Recall on the gearbox was to prevent an EXTERNAL COOLANT LEAK ONLY??? and it would never cause a problem with the gearbox failing???

Basically there not giving me a penny.. or not even a sorry...

    BUT....

I've found a 2nd Hand Box!!! from a Vaux Specialist Scrapper... with 6 months written warrenty!!

£600 ALL IN + Torque converter and delivery.... Plus £150 for my Garage to fit, and fill with fresh oil.

So for £750 i could have my car back on the road.. and 6 months to sell it with warrenty on the Box!!!

Does Anyone know if Vauhall will sell the o-rings or uprated seals (or what ever they were) ... I dont know if this 2nd hand box has had them changed... so would like to do it as piece of mind?

Can any one give me any tech bulletin of the recall or part numbers??

    Cheers

    Vinny

Here you go - ask your VX dealer to tell you what "Field Remedy 1650" on is.

I know for a fact that 1650 on TIS2000 is " AF23/33 transmission - No driving torque because of cooling water in transmission oil".

    EDIT - pm sent.
