Default Balancing issue..Keep getting reset..keeps going off...

My car 68900 miles, standard SRI alloys with 17 inch tyres.

GOt them balanced and tracking done. Pulls to the left now, but so do so many.

After balancing with the first garage, the shaking was worse. Couldnt see the tyre balance machine at this garage-trusted their work.

Wobling all over the place in the 60-80 mph band.

Went to another branded venue, second opinion. On the balance machine which I could watch, the orginal garages work was 25s and 15s out on the balance machine when the tyre was spun.

They took off all the previous weights and started all over again. Got the tyre down to 5s in tolerance, and went one better and put even 5g weights on until both front tyres were totally perfect and the machine showed "OK" after all set up.

Drove for about 30 miles differing speeds, day one.

On day two, oh dear, 60mph odd on the mway again, juddering and wobbly through the steering wheel all over again....

Whats wrong? Thinking there are other steering component related problems existing now, due to it going off so quick.

One thing i did notice, when the car driven for the first time that day, from car being stationary over night, it was shaking. Subsequent drives on motorway speeds got better later in the day, after a couple of stops in between

Driveshaft sounds like a worthy check as its balancing is good, then bad, then good, a bit more good, then catch you out-bad again...

I had this once until I asked the fitter to use the fine settings, but their machine and weights could only go to intervals of 2.5g
So I phoned a few and asked what was the lowest weight they could work to, eventually I found two that could work in 2.0g and one that could do 1.0g
I now get them to do the best they can at 2.5g and if there is still vibration then I go this other place and get them to rebalance at 1.0g

I suspect one of my wheels has received some damage and is a different weight, possibly also slightly out of shape, resulting in the vibration
However, they have all been examined and found to be in "good condition" with no significant damage
This is also the same wheel that often makes one of my tyres deform at the end of its life, with a dreadful bulge even though there is no damage to the tyre

Sounds like you need a trip to see Tony Bones at Wheels in Motion. http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/index.php

There ain't nothing he can't sort when it comes to geometry and wheels.

110% recommended. At least worth a phone call?

I hit a pothole really hard 2 Fridays ago and threw all the steering out, created a bad wobble and the steering wheel dropped to the left a touch too. Went to a local company, Tyreland, had wheels rebalanced and both were out and he mentioned that as tyres wear they naturally go out of balance because of the loss of rubber from the tread, had it re-aligned with the Hunter machine and its like a brand new car again. Cant recomend these machines enough. Costs between 40 and 60 smackers though but worth every penny...HTH
