    Default Handbrake Headache!

Hi, the handrake on my 2005 Vectra CDTi is coming up about six notches. It was fitted with new rear pads only 2 months ago. Can free play be taken up within the handbrake mechanism? Iv'e tried to remove the handbrake cover but it refuses to budge! Anyone got any experience of this ? Cheers, Bill

I didn't realise the Vectra C came with a handbrake, I thought it was a useless accessory so that the car passed its MoT
Ever since my car rolled free after the recall I know park my car in first gear
The only time I use the handbrake is for MoT test and extreme hill starts

It does seem to vary between two and six notches
At the moment mine is on four

Hi, thanks for your reply. Thankfully mine has not (as yet) rolled away!

apparently if you pull the handbrake up without pushing the button in all will be fine. touch wood!

I have always pushed the button in to put the handbrake on with no problems, on all three of my Vecs

Mine was fine, then they did the recall and have since replaced it twice, due to it making a bang and dropping a notch when I pull it up with or without pushing the button in. I was always told five was about the norm, but my one (which only came back from the stealers last week) also notches six.

I've never had any problems at all with mine.

I do believe that it is self-adjusting though, so any free play should be taken up automatically.
