Default Driver side electric window stopped working

    Hi guys,

my front driver side electric window has stopped working.
The passenger side works fine, but the driver side is stuck all the way to the top.
When I press the UP/DOWN button, the motor in the door click once or twice, but nothing moves.

I've taken the door card off and had a look, but I can't see if anything is stuck or loose.

Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a cable for the front windows, or is this just for manual winding windows?

I've thought it may be the motor/mechanism, and I'm confident in replacing this, but my concern is that the window is stuck at the full up position, so I cannot release the window from the mechanism, or lower the mechanism enough to be ablke to get it out of the door.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, or any ideas what it may be?

Can you out a 12v feed onto the motor to see if it actually drives up and down?
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

MMMMMMMMMMMM Not sure , but I'm willing to have a look if your anywhere near bolton / salford.
It may be the regulator , but until you look properly it's impossible to see , as they are very tempramental.
The arms are driven by a motor , so no cables , there are 2 arms and one rear slider , check they are all located in the metal channel on the bottom of the glass .

If you need to drop the regulator out , disconnect the multiplug , then pop the rivets from the arms , and you should be able to wangle the mech from the glass channel.
    Hope that all makes sense.

    Thanks for your replies guys.

I didn't think there were any cables at the front..

I took the door car off at the weekend, and removed the damp proof film.

I had a good mess around with the mechanism, and couldn't see that anything was loose. Infact if was rock sold, and nothing moved.
I connected the door switch, and tried to move the window up and down, but the motor just clicks when you press the switch.
I was thinking, either the regulator/motor has gone, and needs replacing, or the mechanism has got jammed, and it clicks because it can't move...

If I decide to replace the mechanism, will it be dificult because the window is stuck in the UP position? because normally you'd drop the window, then remove the clip at bottom of the glass, then it's disconnected from the mechanism.
I've seen videos on YouTube that it's possible, just more awkward removing the clip. Pop the rivets first, then the mechanism drops inside the door panel, taking the window down slightly with it, so it's accessable that way.

Yep that's the way forward , but the vectra c is renowned for being a **** for getting the glass on the arms , so it's easier to put all the arms in , then rivet in the door after , get someone to give you a lift , three hands n all that .

I've been thinking about this one...

Would it be an option to just remove the motor part of the mechanism, and replace with a new one, instead of replacing the whole thing?

I could tape the window in position, to hold it up.
Unscren the 3/4 screws for the motor part (plastic section of the mechanism)
remove a few of the rivets supporing the main section of the mechanism.
Enough to be able to slip the motor section out of the bottom of the mechanism, and replace with a new one, then put back together.

Or would it be best to just replace the whole thing.
I'm trying to think of ideas to make it less hassle.

mmmm - You could give it a whirl I suppose , no harm in trying , Worst case scenario a second hand regulator would only set you back about £30 hopefully .
