    Default Fitted 10" Subwoofer Today...

    Went well! Suprisingly!

Went to Motorworld yesterday and got rather a good deal on:
    - 10" Subwoofer Rockford Fosgate
    - JBL GTO 4000 4 Channel Amp
    - Complete Wiring Kit
    - FM Modulator

    All for £150 quid.

Delibertately chose not to buy a box as with the SuperBus being an estate, I still need all the room in the back. Plus the dog won't take to kindly to sitting next to a bass box!

Been playing around with headunits for a while now and I must admit, every adaptor I have tried to convert to a single din headunit, is cr@p. The quality is fine, it is just the fit. Wiring again fine. It just isn't flush with the dash. So after some research and speaking to a few people I have decided to keep the CD30 headunit. To provide a RCA output for the subwoofer I used an Autoleads adaptor which you wire into the rear left and right outputs from the headunit, not forgetting to earth it too. One extra thing I found out you have to do is provide the 'remote' wire for the amp a tap into the ignition wire.

So utilisising the area where a CD changer WOULD go on my car I set about turning this into my box.

Then cut the MDF to an inch bigger than the flap cover on all four corners and slotted it in. Perfect fit.

Drew up the gap with the MDF in place, then drew on the subwoofer where it would go.

4 Pilot holes and a quick jigsaw cut later we have a subwoofer hole!!!

Put back in and test fit the subwoofer

All good!! Now had to secure the MDF in place to the car with some supports. The shape of the MDF rested on the bottom fine so the weight was already supported. Just had to strut it up at the back.

Quick go with sticks like sh*t and works a treat! Won't move anywhere. Now flipped over the boot floor and fitted the amp upside down. Removed space saver as useless with 19's anyway and I pay the AA good money

Wired it all up and it sounds perfect. Got all the bass setup at the rear now and the speakers and components just control mid and high ranges. So much more clearer sound Very very pleased. The 10" subwoofer just adds bass nicely without being too boomy.

Still have to trim it in properly, but can wait until tommorrow

If anyone needs any model numbers, specs or cable numbers just let me know.

glad you like it chap .. although do you know if the woofer is a ''free air'' woofer or not ???

the reason being if its not ''free air'' then it should really go in a box because 1) it might not last as long as normal .. 2) if you have it loud then it'll start to give a ''flapping'' sound instead of the ''bass'' sound !! .... if it is a ''free air'' woofer , then you can pretty much put it anywhere and i'll shut up

Yes mate can be mounted upside down with the cone pointing downwards if ya see what I mean

It is quite enclosed behind the area, though not completely. Blocked off part of it so it only goes through into the wing now so is a vented enclosure.

    Cheers bud

Looks great, Excellent pics could do with a couple of subs myself just to fine tune the standard audio set up.

Not finished yet, once trimmed in it will look perfect mate.

The standard speakers and components actually are surprisingly good. Very tempted to amp up the speakers seperately and run the headunit just as a supply if you see what I mean. Really really pleased with the quality of it though. The standard headunit just looks perfect too. The box is enclosed slightly more than the pics forgot to get a last pic. It is vented through the gap at the back into the wing. Might dynamat it, not sure yet.

    CD30 MP3 model plays MP3's mate yes.

Steve - Yes very good mate. Basically I can play it louder without distortion and the sound is alot clearer. I have had the big loud bass rocking systems before, but this time I wanted quality. The bass sounds awesome, but without being dominating if you see what I meant. 100 times better than standard. I think amping the standard speakers will improve it again. Then if really needed I can replace front and rear speakers.

My main goal is utilising the standard headunit. I don't want to replace it.

As for being easy, it is. More than welcome to come up here one day mate and i'll do it for ya

Not a problem mate, enjoyed doing it today, be alot quicker next time.

Depends if you want it built into the boot like mine or not? Otherwise you can get a box. Ideally an active sub from Vibe which sounds awesome!

Tapping into the standard headunit is easy, took me 15 mins to remove, do the mod and refit. The lead cost £10 from Autoleads.

Then decide on 10" for quality bass, or 12" for a bit more of a punch on your subwoofer.

If you don't mind a box, go for a Vibe Active subwoofer everytime. Just wire them in. If you want stealth, takes longer a you have to fanny on as above. But worth it.

I installed a switch for the amp so I can turn it off when got the dog in the boot, poor thing has sensitive hearing

The Autoleads adaptor taps into the rear left and right speakers.

Let me know what you want to do there and ill make a list for you
