    Default Inlet Manifold

    Hi guys.

Update on the manifold situation. The dealer have agreed to reimburse me £220 of the money i've paid to the car, which is fine with me.

They have also agreed to take the car in and investigate the manifold. I need to be an expert on this problem so i can tell them everything thats wrong and make sure it gets fixed properly. The garage i got it checked at told me the inlet manifold needs replaced, but theres a few things i need cleared up.

The bar behind the fuel rail has broken off - but what does it do?

What are the 4 rubber looking holes for? Should the bar be attached to these?

The oil light came on the other night and it was nearly empty and i noticed a lot of oil around the third and last hole where the bar is (counting from the left)

Any help would be much appreciated as i said, i want to make sure i show and tell them everything.

Also, theres a huge flat spot when it changes between second and third and the car also jerks violently sometimes. Is this down to the manifold problem?

    Here's a few pics

The oil is around these 2 bits

Swirl flaps/valves. That bar is the actuator for the swirl flaps, yes it should be attached to those bits you describe. This being U/S would lead to your flat spot.

I took the car to the dealer this morning and they just phoned me saying it's been on a road test, and suprise suprise, there's nothing wrong. The guy said it drove fine, no fault codes and the manifold is fine. He said the valves move freely and the link rod can be put back on and it will be ok, but they will get an independant inspection done next wednesday........

So i phoned the place where i got it diagnosed and they said the rod can be put back on but it will just come off again - the manifold is knackered and it needs replaced.

The finance company said i need to wait till the dealer get their inspection done before they can do anything.

Their fix didnt work so the rod came back off and ive got on to the finance company yet again

Ive seen a few members who have fixed the rod on themselves and just wondered if the rod gets attached to the nipple parts on the manifold or over the 4 holes

you can reattach the rod you mentioned bud some members have found a cure but thats just to save them money cos its not cheap to replace the manifold. the place that told you the manifold is knackered is correct mybe you should go back to them and get a written explaination of what they think the problem is. im quite surprised by your dealer they know this fault exsists and would be happy to get the work ie someones gotta pay em

    Chris is correct...

Also - the reason the bar has come off is due to excessive up and down movement of the flaps.. this in turn wears the ball joints and the bar falls off.

Also - the up and down movement means that the flaps are not sealed and caused gunk to escape past them etc and also gum up..

There is a PDF from the makers of the inlet that explains and you can use that to send to the finance / warrenty company... Let me see if I can find it..
