Car Drivers should always be blamed if in accident with Cyclists

I just dont know what's happening to this country at all.

Some minister has now decided that its a good idea that Car drivers should always be held responsible if they are involved in a accident with a cyclist, even if its the cyclists fault.

What with over 75% of drunken and disorderly cases no longer being processed by police, with the police just giving them a rap on the wrist, and many other thousands of cases no longer being prosecuted due to cost cutting, we are becoming a totally lawless society.

We have had a system in the UK for some time which appears to favour the thug rather than the victim. I'm waiting for some bright spark in the government to suggest that victims will in future be fined, and compensation will be paid to the criminal. This is the direction we are heading, and I suspect cannot be far away

What a pathetic nation we have become.

Where do they manage to find these brainless idiots from, as it appears no-one in government seems to have any decent common sense at all.

I noted in a report the weekend about the number of un-insured drivers in the UK that in the event a un-insured driver killed someone by dangerous driving they would only face a maximum of 2 years prison sentence. So if your young child is mowed down and killed by some young thug who is also uninsured as is likely the case when vehicles are stolen, the thug is likely to receive 2 years or less. Surely that's not justice... the justice system is a total joke.

So am I to assume you agree that its right that the innocent driver should be blamed for the reckless studipity of the cyclist who may have caused the accident himself. ?

Personally, I believe that all cyclists should have compulsary insurance, also electric disabled scooters too.

I do agree with you Cameron.

My big issue is that adult cyclists aren't required by law to pay any type of public liability insurance.

The lack of road tax, I can bear, but there should be some form of nominal registration, insurance and therefore, accountability to cyclists.

Yes it would be hard to administer, yes they're would be a cost, but then as no fuel is required for cycling, it would be by far still the cheapest way to travel.

I don't, in principal, agree with somebody by proxy, not being responsible fr their actions or wrong-doings.

EDIT: Also agree with you on the scooters, you should see some the speed some of those things do!!!

if this comes in.... im off to get on my push bike... ride down a one way street and straight into an on comming car...

I will then sit back and claim my compensation i am rightly entitled to!!

It's because drivers are licensed to be on the road, they have passed a test to be able to use the road to should know what they're doing.

I can kind of see where you are coming from on this, but if a cyclist swerved in front of your car and you hit him, would you be happy to take the blame??

It's all very well taking the moral high ground, but if you are up in court for something that isn't your fault - can you honestly see that as being fair?

If we have to take a test to use the road, shouldn't a cyclist??

agree with the point that all cyclists/old folk buggies should have some form of insurance.
also while we are on the subject of strange laws/rules....anybody know why you can get fined for letting your dog plop on the path/highway and not clearing it up, yet have you ever seen a horse rider clean up after their horse or get a fine for letting it plop every where? hmmmmmmm.

Not taking no moral high ground and don't agree if it came into law. Just stated what I knew as we had this discussion at work the other day. Would kill the idiot if the hit my car!

Funny enough, I'm sure I remember seeing something last week, that they are now allowing Cyclists to legally travel up one way systems the wrong way now if they wish.

Absolutely stupid.

About 10 years ago my late Mother who would have been about 80 at the time was hit by a cyclist who was riding very fast on the pavement, she spent 5 weeks in hospital with her injuries, which were quite severe especially considering her age, and she received nothing, and no action was taken against the cyclist as he was just under 14yrs old. Not that they would have taken any action anyway.
