    confused MGN

    Hi all

    Help help help please.

I have an 04 Signum automatic. The tailgate recently refused to open, I took the whole thing apart, checked the electrics to the lock unit and all the fuses.
Everything seems in order but still the lock will not open.
I was assured it was the lock and plastic box on the tailgate itself, so I changed it, still no joy.
It is a nightmare not being able to open the tailgate as I use it every day.
    Has anyone had this problem?

    Cheers all

    Neil

When you say plastic box - you've changed the bit that has the rubber pad in it and what you press to open the tailgate? i.e. the bit with the micro switch in it?

I had this same problem until recently. The boot would remain locked, even if it wasn't shut properly. The only way I could open it was to drop the rear seats, climb in to the boot and undo the lock using a large flat-head screwdriver (there's a hole in the trim on the inner boot lid cover which allows the car to be opened from inside). If I shut the boot 'normally', it would jam again, but if I slammed it hard, it would open ok.

I took it to Vauxhall and they replaced the electronic switch under warranty - and the problem is now rectified.
