    Default Automatic question..

Right I have had this 150 elite auto for about 2-3 months now and comparing it to other auto's I have driven I am not sure if it drives as it should.

once in drive you need to keep a firm foot on the brake or it's off, I drove a 52 plate s type jag last week and once that was put in drive it just sat there until the gas was pressed, I preferred this and remember this was how the other (all petrol) auto's behaved. Also going from park or neutral to a gear (drive or reverse) sometimes it clunks and for a car just 12 months old I am somewhat disappointed in the auto box.
Anyone with an auto to compare please?
    thanks again.

Don't forget the torque the diesel engine produces mate, even at idle. no idea if it's supposed to do that as I haven't driven an auto Vectra, but it's just a thought...

I engage into Drive whilst my foot on the brake, If I take my foot off it will go forward, not fast but will creep forward (mines a CDTi 150).

It does have a smallist clunk when engaging into drive also, nothing too bad tho.

Thanks for the replies, it sounds like it may be a trait of the vx auto box then, sounds like I need to get used to it.

I have the 2.2 direct auto and i do get a slight creep on engaging drive but nothing extreme but i don't get any clunk, just a silky smooth drive and don't even feel it change gear most of the time.
I had a citroen c4 previous to this which was very similar to yours, dealer tried all sorts to fix but ended up saying was nothing wrong.

Creeping forward is there by design. The autobox is designed to not roll back on hills. The effect of that on 'the level' is that it creeps forward. Actually, it's quite handy as you can roll forward without any effort in traffic jams. Only CVT auto gearboxes dont creep forward (although they do roll back on hills).

If you have to "keep a firm foot on the brake" then the creep forward sounds a little agressive on your car. Maybe a software update would help.

As for the clunk ... it shouldnt. Again, maybe an oil change or s/w update would help.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

The car shouldn't try and creep forward with your foot on the brake. After a second or so the autobox should electronically drop into neutral, which is supposed to save fuel.

Wrong! As soon as you get off the brake pedal IT SHOULD creep forward. Otherwise it's not working well. I agree with you on the electronically dropping into neutral, but only if you keep the foot on the brake pedal for more than 4 seconds. You can even feel it when you stop at a red light.

Any one knowing where can I download the software update for the AF40-6 speed gearbox?
