I'm seriously thinking about getting a new PS3. I sold my 60GB unit on ebay sometime ago - this new cheaper unit has got me interested again.
Not sure if I should trade my 20GB xbox in - they'll give me £65 off.
Convince me!!

TBH I'm disappointed with this generation of games machine, and to be fair its not the hardware but the games themselves, with all this extra power what are they actually doing with it? The games have no more depth or longevity than before. GTA took a week, GT5 prologue took 2 days, Wolfensine 5 days, this is not really good enough. I know when GT5 come's out its going to have some longevity and COD 6 will have a good online side, but on the whole I think games a poor.
Its very rare I actually finished a game - i'm far from a hardcore gamer.
Alex the Kid in miracle world on the sega master system is my all time favourite!
I Dunno, There's still quite a few games that you can play for ages, It just happens (and this is in no way a dig at the PS3 as i have recently bought a slimline myself) that there are more games that could take a while to complete on the Xbox 360, FableII takes quite awhile even without the 2 DLC quests, GTAIV with The lost & the dammed DLC and the soon to be released BOGT DLC, And not forgetting Fallout3 with the 5 DLC Addons spring to mind Steve, I've played Fallout to completion and it took well over 160hrs, IanT has been playing it longer (something like 185 hrs) and he hasn't got all the DLC or finished it yet as he's still working his way through it, theres also oblivion, that will set you back a good 100hrs+ with all the DLC to complete and its a platinum release now so it'll set you back £20..
Maybe try playing the games on the hardest setting, thats what I do, drives me nuts sometimes but its a challenge, or rent games from somewhere like Tesco's for £8 a month, when your done with the game send it back and get the next game on your list sent out by return post
As for the PS3 Slimline, its not a bad bit of kit I prefer it to the 60gb PS3 i had before it, I've been told that the slimline is made with cheaper parts to help with costs, and to me it looks a lot better than the Non slimline PS3, picture quality is awful without an HDMI cable (not included btw) But would I swap an Xbox 360 in for a PS3, no way, I personally much prefer the whole XBL experience, £26 a year (7p a day, 52p a week) online costs an all....
I'm thinking about getting one too. I sold my XBOX360 a while back and tbh I miss having a games machine. The Wii just doesn't cut it.
Looks great, great graphics via HDMI, and Blue-Ray in the mix. The game selection looks fine for me, I'm not a hardcore gamer.
The slim-line version will take up less room in the living room too - so less hassle from the Mrs.
I know what your saying Pete. Not been gaming since my daughter was born 4 years ago so just sticking my toe in the water again. With me always having a Sega or sony Ive always been use to smaller maps say over the n64 and xbox, on the PS1 ans 2 there was always a door to go through so the next screen/map could load, think thats where I first noticed the plus side of the xbox where the maps were huge compared to the ps2. Online games are new to me also, been playing COD 5 6 months online in the Wii so I know there are games out there just trying to fined the right ones. TBH the online Wolfensine is shocking compared to COD on the Wii.
Somewhere in my Mums loft I even have a Vic 20 with a cartridge game, no graphics, just text, my first experience of a role player.
Jeez your getting on then Steve! Yeah I remember the Vic 20 aswell, I had one after the ZX81 & ZX spectrum, I went from the vic 20 the commadore 64, then onto the acorn a kit built Apple and then amstrad cpc 464 and cpc 6128 before going onto the 286 and 386 pc's!!
Did you ever play Elite or frontier elite?? Its just about to celebrate its 25th anniversary, it came out in Sept 1984! That was a huge role playing game! docking at a space station thingy was a bit dodgy but it was revolutionary back then
Not so many systems for me mate as Rugby played a big part from the age of 6. after the Vic 20 I didn't get anything till the consoles came in and i got my MK1 Sega Master System with little joysticks you could screw into the D pad.
