Default HELP!... v6 CDTi hesitating, now EML on

    Hi all,

I have a 3.0l v6 CDTi on a 55 plate, the inspection warning ticked down to zero a couple of weeks ago.

Since that, the car starting to hesitate at around 2.5k revs in both second and third.
Then it gots worse and started doing it randomly higher up the revs too in all gears.

I had a full service done yesterday and all seemed to be fine for approx 30 miles.
Then it went back to hesitating randomly through acceleration for about 40 miles.
I came off a round about, accellerated up in to fifth when the car lost all power, and the Engine Management Light came on... the car is now in what i assume is 'limp mode' where i can put my foot to the floor in any gear and it just accellerates gently - no boost from turbo etc

Any ideas what this could be?
The garage that did the service said he's heard of it before, and has heard that vauxhall can do a remap that fixes the issue.... or possibly the EGR valve.

    Anybody had similar problems?
Or if anybody can give a rough cost on an EGR valve or even this remap by vauxhall?

Rough cost of EGR is £250+ and the cost of fitting on top, which I assume is going to be a couple of hours as it doesn't look tremendously easy to get to.

I'd get the codes read to see what's going off in there.

It sounds like what other 3.0 V6 CDTI owners, like myself, have suddenly started to suffer over the last few weeks!
    Search "field remedy SCV"

However if the EMS light is on then it might not be the above, and is more lilkely a sensor failure, but a TEC2 diagnosis is required
If the car is under warranty then that should be covered
The usual one is the MAF, that goes first
If not, then the EGR is the next culprit

    cheers guys.
had to drive it about 80 miles yesterday to get home from the caravan, and it got MUCH worse!!

it's now at the point where i can only drive it between 2-3k revs - anywhere below that and it looses all power, doesn't stall but it's as if the engine is just idling, even when my foot is flat to the floor!
It does that for about 3 seconds, then just jumps to life and goes.

You try have no acceleration for 3 seconds when pulling out of a junction !! scary stuff!

gonna have to get it to vauxhall today if poss but don't really fancy the 3 miles drive

Thats the same as mine, the problem slowly gets worse, and eventually the SCV (Suction Control Valve) will not respond and they you won't even be able to start the car

I am now down to 1500rpm, and reckon I have about 1000 miles left before it ceases completely
Equally it is becoming dangerous due to the lack of acceleration, and quite often HGVs get incredibly close uphill then I start to increase the gap downhill
I have advised the dealership they will have to get me a suitable courtesy car from Thursday onwards

In mine the EMS light has never come on
If that is the same as yours, the let them do a diagnosis and see what they say
They may come back "no fault found", in which case advise them "Field remedy for ceased SCV"
Be warned if your car is out of warranty this job is 8 hours plus parts (I am still waiting for a parts list), but I know from previous experience diesel fuel pump parts are NOT cheap, equally even though only one may have failed the entire set needs to be repalced (personally they should just replace the fuel pump!)

Another point, as you have noted, keep the revs high and get above 2000rpm and the engine responds without any problem
However, I am reluctant to do this for long drives
Driving at 70mph in 3rd gear is just on the border of insane, as well as seeing vehicles behind disappearing in an endless light cloud of smoke

well, it's in with the dealer today. had a phone call this morning saying that they have found a fault on the diagnostics, but the code shows 'Unknown Error relating to fueling' was the words he used.

So, he's suggested they start with the cheapest fix and go from there. The first attempt will be re-programming the ECU, then they'll try cleaning the fuel system, flushing lines etc, then move on to the fuel pump - which sounds like they're building up to the field remedy you mention.

The car is out of warranty by 1 year now, so i'll be footing the bill whatever.

I'm desperately hoping that it's not the fuel pump as i know how expensive these are!

It must be a jinx, but mine started doing something similar today. Took the box off a couple of weeks ago and then had it serviced last week and did 700 miles over the weekend with absolutely no problems whatsoever. When joining the M40 today it suddenly felt like the power was removed for a second. Then did it again when I was on the way home. No EML yet, but it is a bit scary when it happens, I will definitely think twice when pulling out now.

As soon as it did it I thought of all the recent threads on 3.0 stuttering and thought, oh ******!

    Any updates gratefully received!
