    Default esp/traction control

Hi all first of all let me introduce myself my name is greg and i'm new to this forum and a recent SRI 150 CDTI owner, i have possibly a stupid question regarding my car the car is a 2006 vectra and on reading the owners manual it seems to me that ESP/traction control was a optional extra, where i was led to beleave it was standard on the SRI i say this because when i turn on the iginion there is no sign of the ESP/TC symbol light, Please can someone put me out of my misery ! many thanks greg.

By the age of yours. Being a Face lift. I don,t think you have it on. On the face lift it was only standard on the V6 models. Where as on the pre face lift it was standard on them all exept the 1.8. On the V6,s though they had ESP+ as well as Traction Control.

Your car has Traction Control as standard
ESP would have been an optional extra
If you are spinning the front wheels and it activates, and this is the only time you ever see it activate, then this suggests ESP in NOT fitted
ESP helps prevent oversteer which is more common in heavy front wheel drive cars, and occurs very rarely, I've only managed to activate it twice

A lot of people get ESP (Electronic Stability Control) confused with TC (Traction Control).
ESP Helps the driver if they "loose" the back end. There is a Yaw Sensor on the steering where it can detect if the car " is out of line" and then automaticaly apply the brakes to one or more of the wheels to help "pull" the car back in line. TC stops the wheeels from spinning, by at first retarding the timing, then applying the brakes if needed.

TC does slightly more than that...
but the effects are the same
The main difference is that TC only applies ONE brake axle (front or rear), ESP can apply up to any two and operates at a higher application frequency and so can montor the effects quicker (extremely useful for uneven road surfaces)
