Default Car just rolled into my house!!!

A couple of weeks ago I had new rear pads fitted to my Vectra by motosave.

Its been parked on fairly level surfaces since. Today my wife parked it on our drive which has a slight slope to it. We went out this evening to find the car resting up the house. There is a fair bit of damage to the drivers side on the front.

Now we have not had any issues before the pads were changed on the rear. Have motosave messed something up here? We tested the handbrake again after reversing back from the house and with it on it rolled forwards again.

I am very angry and guess I will be calling motosave in the morning to get them to fix it and then seeking money to sort the damage out.

ok so this is not the handbrake clicking off then...this is more a case of the handbrake not working at all .......may be worth getting someone else to ck it for faults before going bk with all guns blazing

Have you had the handbrake recall work done?

Too late now I know, but never rely solely on the handbrake to stop your £x,000 tin box from rolling away. Leave in 1st or reverse gear as well.

mate, mine has done this twice!
once i came out of work and my car was resting against a corsa behind mine on a down hill about a car length apart originally.
and again outside my mates house the car was resting against the car infront on a downhill!

i had the recall done after the first time but i think the second time i maybe didnt put it up just enough and it may have lost pressure or sumthing..

    sounds simular bud

imagine if it had been resting against a car uphill. how confusing would that have been?

Not being funny, but did you not learn anything from the first time it happened? ie, leave the car gear as well.

Absolutely agree, in 48 years driving I've never left a vehicle parked without leaving it first gear or reverse gear. Anyone not leaving it in gear is really tempting fate.

Obviously the OP has a mechanical handbrake problem, but would suggest he leaves it in gear in future, or chock the wheels. Hope he gets some compensation for the damage and he gets it fixed, but there is a lesson to be learned here, always leave it in gear, and if in slightest doubt on a slope put something under the wheels.

These are serious matters that can cost a childs life, or someone elses.

I don't understand what to do next now. This has never happened since I have had the car. I have just been out, put the handbrake on and tried again, no movement this time, even when trying to drive off it didn't budge!!

Now, where do I start? Do I ring motosave and try to get them to sort it and pay for the damage? and then what about the recall? Do Vx have a database of which cars have been fixed? Will they pay for damage if its due to their recall issue?
