Default Nearly got stung, but VOSA check come up trumps!

Check this out folks, I wont reveal any details but I just agreed a price with someone for a car and then I chose to do a VOSA MOT Check as there was no history prior the current owners information.

Before I start, bear in mind that the car is currently showing 46,000 miles on a 2003, which naturally interested me!

    Date of test: 09/04/2009
    Odometer reading: 45,811 Miles

Ok, you ready for the !
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Full Test History, starting with first recorded vehicle and test results

    Date of test: 01/08/2006
    Odometer reading: 83,613 Miles

    Date of test: 08/08/2007
    Odometer reading: 98,589 Miles

    Date of test: 10/04/2008
    Odometer reading: 36,051 Miles

    Date of test: 09/04/2009
    Odometer reading: 45,811 Miles
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there you have it, this could've been a close call, so where possible, I will do this check. If in doubt, check it out is my moto!

Naturally I have called the seller and told them that I am withdrawing my interest and in the sellers defence, they did seem clueless so it would seem that someone have ben stung them somehere too, but I felt it my duty to inform them.

Oh and, if any people want to pursue this and report it, I wont give you any details as its none of my business anymore and as the VOSA site says:

"If you do not have a legitimate interest in the vehicle you must destroy the document"

......which is of course what I have done!

Cruel cruel world out there isnt it!

    - Well played.

I know you've washed your hands of it, but what are the legal ramifications now this info is public knowledge?

    Date of test: 08/08/2007
    Odometer reading: 98,589 Miles

    Date of test: 10/04/2008
    Odometer reading: 36,051 Miles
...and shouldn't this anomaly have been spotted by VOSA?

I did an HPI check on one I'm looking at, and it came up with outstanding finance on it... it was at a proper used garage, and a quick call to the finance company confirmed it was simply a case of the garage paying the company the money once it was bought from them, so no issues there. I believe it's an ex-vauxhall management car due to all the options on it and the mileage. The dealer then did the HPI check himself in front of me to confirm it and confirmed the finance companies reply. Even he said it was stupid NOT to carry out these sorts of checks on any used car when it only costs 20 squid...

makes you wonder - previous milage is recorded - maybe the car has had a new instrument binnacle /clocks and was noted as an advisory ??

EXACTLY my thoughts mate! I thought the whole point of this info being available was so that someone somewhere would actually keep an eye on it or pick up "automatically" on such discrepencies!

Incorrect mate, have read through all the advisories ever issued against the car and none of them indicate anything untoward with the instrument binnacle /clocks.

More to the point - who would want to cover that sort of distance in a Fiesta...? this is why we own such large and comfortable cars, for cruising the motorways...
