    Thumbs up Noise from cat

    Hi there I have a rattle coming from my cat converter and someone has told me that I need a new 1 or I could just knock it all out, pretty skint a the moment so was thinking cheapest option first but if I knock it out would it bring the engine light on ????? Thanks it's a 2.2 petrol if this helps

    You may find that the rattly is the flex pipe splitting up. Best bet is to get underneath yourself and see whats going on.

    If its disintegrating, it may be a new CAT needed or get a flex piece and get someone to cut and shut it in.

    If its just rattling, get a large jubilee clamp around it. Someone did it on here and it sorted it, I will try to find the link for you.

    Dont think that decatting it will bring the light on, seen a post here sometime ago, as your not removing the Lambda sensor, should be ok

    2.2 geniuses will be along shortly

    i love this site. i was about to get the cat changed till i read this. problem sorted. hope thats not what was wrong with my old audi as that had 3 new cats in the 4 years i had it because of an annoying rattle.

    De catting a 2.2 will put the car into limp as there's an O2 sensor before and after the cat. Its only the CDTI's and the V6 petrol that can be decatted. The cat on the 2.2 is in the manifold before the downpipe not under the car. Its more than likely the wire braid around the flexie, its only a cover and as said can just be clamped back in place.
