    Default EGR cleaned but..

    Hi guys,

The car suddenly lost power and wouldnt rev pass 2000 rpm, had the fault codes read out giving p0400.

That seems to point to the EGR valve.. i took it off, cleaned it as per the how 2, put it back in hoping bobs my uncle but hes not ! still the same fault & fault code.. maybe i didnt clean it right..

Is it possible it could be the MAF sensor? i mean p0400 code is abit vague... please guys any ideas? this is driving me nuts!

p.s. a new replacement egr valve on the 2.0 dti is a complete rip off.. £220 ++!!! the 1.9 cdti is half than that!

    hi mate,

Thanks for your reply. but i think i can disregard the MAF sensor.

I disconected the air hose from the MAF sensor and turned the car on... the problem is still the same so i can assume its not the MAF sensor.. ?

nice1, im waiting twiddling my thumbs lol

If someone could answer this for me.. is it ok for me to disconect the EGR valve and then turn the car on.. if the car revs high i can conclude its not the EGR valve? Thanks in advanced..

Check your vacuum hoses for leaks or perished connectors (very common) check your vacuum hoses are connected up properly .
Whilest checking test the system for suction the system works on a 0.6 bar vacuum just detectable with a wet finger if no vacuum detected suspect hose splits or actuattor/s going faulty.
Also check your manifold hoses for splits especially the hose that goes down to the intercooler .

Haha, that above post is mine!! Deffo check the Vacuum hoses and leak of pipes. BUT if the car was running fine prior to doing this, it points to the vac hoses as they are very very common!! Check for splits on the underside. These are small pipes near the battery area and bulkhead by the brake servo! let us know how you get on.

    Bye bye Vec B

    Thanks for the replies guys!

incidentally i am a member of both RAC and The AA, both have checked the pipes ( roughly), but i dont have a clue if they checked them for leaks..

ok maybe a dumb question, but how would i check for splits, i mean are these clearly visible unlike the leak off pipes where they cannot be seen by the eye?

i havent a clue how to test the system for suction..

oh and by the way to test if it is indeed the EGR valve, would disconnecting it and running the car be ok to test it?

Did you clean the egr valve and inlet or just egr valve.... maybe its blocked before it hits the egr valve..... if you take engine cover off you have 6 (i think) star bolts holding top of inlet on at the bottom right hand side of the cover. Take that top off and check for carbon build up in there

might be worth a look too http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...ght=boost+hose

i cleaned the EGR and outer inlet i.e. the part just above the egr valve and oh my days that was clogged up to the max... i mean i scraped of huge amounts of carbon, all in all it was enough to fully fill a standard size cup!!!

i didnt clean the hole manifold though.. didnt think that was needed?
