    Default Major loss of power

    Hi all
Got a bit of a problem with my 54 Vectra 2.0 DTI. Just recently I noticed it had lost loads of power. And when I go above 3000 rpm, the EML comes on and it wont let me rev higher than 3000 rpm. I can still hear the turbo kicking in (the revs get louder?) but still sluggish as hell. Switching on and off gets rid of the EML but there's no change in the power.

Once up to speed, it cruises ok. There's no smoke or anything and the mpg is about the same. I've had a wee search round the forum and it seems like some others are having a similar(ish) problem.

So where should I start? Check hoses etc?
Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Cheers
    Martin

Hi martin this is a common failing with the dti engine,s unfortunatelly it has also quite a few possible causes . best cause of action in this case is to have the car tech 2 ed at a dealer,s
suspected probable faults found will be
    boost sensor
    egr valve
    leak,s in vacuum set up
    maf filter

you will find how two,s on all of these faults eg
    cleaning boost sensor ,
    cleaning egr valve,
    checking vacuum hoses for leaks
and most can be cured without paying for replacement part,s

    hope this helps

If you are looking for VX dealership, then I recommend Arnold Clark Glasgow South on Pollokshaws Road
Do NOT use Glasgow North on Garscube Road, they are hopeless

Sounds to me like your 2.0 DTi needs the field remedy for loss of power in 5th gear

its more of a general problem rather than a prob with accelerating in 5th gear - the car is just seriously flat in all gears - and I have to keep it under 3000 rpm otherwise the light comes on.

i've read about that field remedy and i think i'll take it to the garage you recommended - so thanks a lot for that - been to the garscube road one a few times and wasnt impressed

    thanks again m8

    Major result here..

    Check the attached pic..

    First place I looked.
I cut a bit off the end and re-attached it and my car is back to normal. This fix wont last forever though, I'm sure the split will widen and the same thing will happen.

Question now is - whats that black hose called and where would I get one?
    Thanks again guys

I have exactly the same problem Martin. Going along a dual carriage way and then lost all power and EML (orange car with spanner). Pulled over, turned off and that got rid of the EML light but no power (like i was driving a 1 litre) and high revs bought the light back on again. Just had my EGR valve off and whilst sooted up this has made no difference. I can't hear the turbo either until high revs.

Where in the car is this Martin, I can't find it but I do have a dif model. 55 plate (face lift) 1.9 cdti 120.

    Default We blow me!

Would you believe it - After reading Martins post I had another play and check where I thought Martin was indicating. Re-terminated that hose and problem fixed.

God bless the internet, this has saved me loads of time and money - Rock on Vectra C club.

Engine cover is off as the split was hidden...

Most dealers can supply the rubber hosing it usually comes in 2 ft length,s though,
it should be kept as a stock item in the workshops .
