Default V6 2.8 cold start revs

    Hi All,

    Got a question for you.

I'm enjoying my 2007 2.8 Elite Automatic, it's the first V6 i've ever had, the first Turbo i've ever had and also the first Automatic i've ever had.

Previous car was a 2.2 Elegance and when i started it from cold, the cold start would keep the revs at just about 1,200 rpm or so.
When i start my v6, the revs shoot straight to 1,600 rpm and stay there for about 20 seconds before gradually coming down to about 1,100.
If i don't wait the 20 secs before engaging drive, i get a Thud through the body as Drive is engaged. If i wait the 20 seconds before engaging drive it's all ok. As soon as drive is selected, the revs drop down.

When she's warm, she settles at about 700rpm ish so that's all fine.
Just seemed a little extreme for a cold engine to shoot up so high, but i guess emissions are to blame.
Hopefully someone with a little more V6 experience can put my mind at rest?

    Cheers
    Ian

1600 is way to high. as you say it should be 1200ish or maybe even less.
not sure if you have an idle control valve on that engine... but if you did it might need a clean.

Normal for them to rev that high from a cold start. I believe its called fast idle and normally drops down a bit within about 20 secs. Caught me out a bit when the VXR did it the first time too.

Same here, high revs for 20 or so seconds. Normal cold start procedure

Hi i have a 2.8 T too and it did the same on startup when i first got it, But can anybody tell me how to solve a problem i have now... when i start it up you have to leave it idling for about a 2 min or so otherwise if you rev it, it runs like a bag of nails and stalls then when you start it up again its ok. I seem to have had this problem ever since my battery went flat and i tryed to start it.... do i need to disconnect the battery for the management system to reset it's self again? or is there something more that i need to look at PLEASE PLEASE HELP
