    Default council tax rebate......?

the bin men in leeds are on their 2nd week of strike action so hence there are piles of rubbish every where, as dogs and foxes rip open the piled up bags as all the wheelie bins are full, some scuffy people have even started putting bags of rubbish on the back field where the kids play area is!!!
so was wondering if we should be entitled to some sort of council tax refund as im paying for a service i arnt getting???????

That would be interesting to find out, somehow I reckon the answer will be no though. We're lucky here and have no wheelie bins and can put what rubbish out we like and they take it.

    Yes, and successfully too
However, I had to go to small claims court but received compensation and costs

My local authority perform three refuse collections a week; standard, green recycle, and blue recycle

I reported that the standard refuse collection had not been performed on 18 out of 52 weeks as well as the green recycle not being collected at all in 2005
I therefore wanted a rebate equivalent to the sums I had paid, for that service

My local court agreed with my evidence and awarded me £85 plus £165 costs
The local authority then wanted to pay this back through my council tax, but I refused, and two weeks later I received a cheque
The local authority then adjusted my council tax for 2006, as they were aware that further collections had failed
Ever since, my refuse has always been collected weekly

agree in part.... but they are striking about their over paid managers and about how the managers get huge payrises when the guy on the ground gets sod all..

I too am also a Public Sector worker who has the right to strike made illegal after we striked last year..

So now they have brought in a new rank to do what i do at £15k a year! and made the chance of promotion non exsistant for the next 5-10 years!

management are always overpaid. It's like the big boys club. Directors scratch each other's backs and line their own pockets and don't give a crap about the workers. It's true in the private sector too.

My last employer made a bunch of people redundant a few years ago (well before the recession). Two weeks later the company owner had a new £90k Merc delivered to him in the company car park. Needless to say it didn't do staff morale much good.

Royal Mail seem to strike at every little thing they don't like. They were on strike because someone got the sack and they didn't agree with it last time. Meanwhile my expenses get delayed going to my employer and therefore into my bank because no one is processing mail. grrrr.

to put rite those who think royal mail strike for any reason are well wrong.

my nephew is a postie last time he striked was because of being told (not asked) to do more work and in a shorter time instead of taking 4 bags of mail out to take 5 bags (each one of those bags weigh 15kg )and then expect to do sorting in the depot on return for no extra pay.
he allready works 10 to 11 hours a day royal mail want them to work 12 hour shifts 4 days a week then do 4 hours on one of there off days sorting mail all this for the same pay.
if the managers do any extra work they get an extra day added to there holiday entitlement.
