Default Went for a long trip, but lost all power!

I left on Friday morning for a long trip
Glasgow - East Midlands - South Wales - Birmingham - Glasgow
Roughly 1000 miles on 100 litres

There was no hurry so the cruise control was set at normal Motorway speed
I don't normally use cruise control
I didn't notice any issues all the way from Glasgow to Charnock Richard Services, including refuelling at Carlisle
Traffic Master and the gantry warnings signs advised of heavy delays after the Thelwall Viaduct, so I took a diversionary route on some B roads for about 20 miles
However on rejoining the Motorway I noticed there was a distinct lack of power
I then found the revs would not go above 3000rpm
Through Derby there some roundabouts and standing traffic, and the symptoms were very clear and obvious
I was able to accelerate up to 2500rpm, it then felt like the brakes were being applied, there was then more acceleration up to 3000rpm, and then shuddering
I then phoned my local VX dealership, for advice as the EML light was not on, and advised them the car would need booking in on Monday for inspection

This went on, but did not get worse as the miles clocked up
However, it was annoying on my return journey as I was unable to use cruise control in order to keep the car under control
It was really noticeable there was a distinct lack of power uphill (even a very slight hill), and up Shap and Beattock I ended up being overtaken by lorries, but downhill there was no problem (so much so the revs would easily pass 3000rpm)

The engine sounds and revs fine on idle
The turbo sounds to be operating correctly, although it does spin up and then go quiet, but it has to do it a lot!
However under load there is no power with limited revs at 2500 to 3000rpm

The EMS light is not showing at any stage
Equally, the self-diagnostic test returns no faults found

My first thoughts are the EGR valve has stuck open, due to the long spell on cruise control at low revs, which is something the car doesn't normally do

It's impossible to put the "foot down"
The 0-60 mph time must be about 30 seconds
Although the first 30mph are as normal!
The 30-50 mph would have to be measured in miles not seconds

Yes, had a look earlier, but doesn't cover the Y30DT engine
The car is under warranty, so let's see if that is their diagnosis...
As above, I normally only use the Cruise Control for short periods, and I suspect having used it for much longer than normal the butterfly valves have ceased

Typical dealership though, unlilkely to remove and clean, replace with new only
Equally, I believe there is a waiting time of at least three weeks on EGR valves on this engine
However, if the VX dealership confirm it is the EGR valve, then I may search for another VX dealership with a SAAB branch (as Arnold Clark don't have any SAAB dealerships)
Ian Grieve in Stirling have both

I say it is unlikey to be the EGR mate. That would show a code.
Check for split hoses. Sounds remarkably like what happend when I forgot to tighten the clip holding the pipe going into the manifold.

It actually sounds like a bust boost hose or a simple vacuum pipe to me? I know you would normally get the full EML and limp mode and error codes stored but you may just be getting enough of a reading to keep the light off?

Interesting to find out the cause though.

I'd go with a leak in the intercooler system too.The hose coming off the turbo was very loose on mine a while back!

The car was with the dealership this morning
Phoned me at 16:00 to advise they had performed a TEC2 and it had returned codes for faulty injectors
I queried that as neither had the engine gone into safe mode nor the engine management light had not come on
They advised that in some cases only the fault code is stored, if deemed less serious (but I've never heard of that before!)

The dealership had (allegedly) removed the faults code, performed a road test and confirmed the car was driving better
    However, I found no difference

Waiting for a phone call for parts to arrive, then I will report back on what is actually wrong, whether it is a specific injector, or the injector rail
