    confused Sticky revs

Can anyone advise please. I have a vectra 1.9 cdti sri 150 nav which has developed a problem with the revs. Car is running fine but if i hard accelerate as soon as i hit 4,000 rpm the cars shudders. Initially it would pass through but yesterday is stopped accelerating at this point until i changed gear. It feels as if it is hitting a rev limiter. It is still doing the top speeds in 5th and 6th. As you can guess i am not very mechanically minded. The car did have its EGR valve replaced 3 months ago could this have caused an underlying problem.?

I have heard a little about this but not much. I was under the impression that if this happens you lose all power and go into safe mode. I am not getting this. Car started running fine again. Seems to be better once running at normal temp.?
